Small Product Assignment – Part 1 & 2

Part 1

  • Model and product – product deep etched to be added using PS with model shot. (Product/Model??? Power tools – safety gear for model (eye/ear/gloves)
  • Set building, use of light & shade, limited props – convey sense of location
  • Add product logo on bottom

Part 2

  • 4 different products within a chosen category (chocolates – Lindt, Godiva, Ferro-Rocher)
  • Style will be similar but shot differently
  • Lighting sympathetic to product form and surface
  • Must have plan before shoot
  • Sketch intended shot
  • Camera position – high / low – long focal length (85mm +) – large subject distance
  • Computer tethered
Supplies required
  • Rubber gloves - avoid finger prints on open chocolate
  • Soft artist brush to sweep off fragments
  • Blue tack - to hold reflectors and to keep props in place
  • small clamps to hold reflectors
  • white card, silver & gold foil card for reflecting soft light on product
  • mirrors to reflect strong light on product
  • Polorizing filter - minimise cocoa oil 'blooming' on chocolate
  • black cloth for table covering
  • fan to keep air moving to prevent condensation on chocolate
  • dishes for display
Techniques
  • use single light high and behind product and use reflectors/mirrors to light product
  • use 1/2 power on light
  • find pieces of chocolate for final shoot and put them aside. Use reject pieces for set up
  • try to use specular light on product
  • See hardcopy pdf of chocolate company photos used for product advertisement.
